Social Media Management
To put it in a very simple and non-complex manner, Social Media can be referred to as the transfer, creation, and global/worldwide discussion of content that is and is seen as something that is necessary around the world. For example, people see that one venue of Social Media is Twitter. With Twitter’s free service, people from all over the world can communication, share, and discuss media in a social manner. Call it the Globalization of the internet, if you will.
Social Media revolves around two main components; quality content and global communication. As aforementioned, Twitter is a massive Social Media platform as well as Facebook. If we look at Facebook, we will find that it revolves around what it users see as quality content. Or in other terms as pictures, articles, status updates, and applications. All of these are necessary in the definition of Social Media and have to be readily available to be used by people worldwide. These platforms allow all of us to communicate in a social setting yet in a more relaxed atmosphere that your simple tavern or sports bar.
On another platform inside the definition of Social Media, the rapid spread of news and “updates” is exactly what has fueled this Social Media revolution. Before the creation of Social Media, those who you could chat with about today’s top breaking news story was limited to those who you could call on the phone, your co-workers, and your family. Today, you can create an account and hundreds of Social Media websites and spread you thoughts and opinions with the world. Throw in a few debates with this media, and there you have it; Social Media. Without these platforms that we use to discuss the news and other topics with the world, Social Media would have never come to evolve into the form we see it in today.
In one prime example that perfectly defines “Social Media”, think back to the Iran Revolution of 2009. The news channels including the big three were talking non-stop about how Twitter, a social media venue, was setting the debate of this world conflict and how information(media) was being leaked through twitter from Iran to the outside world. This brought the conflict into perspective like we could have never experienced before due to the fact that our only outlets for news are the major networks and the Associated Press which are banned from entering Iran. Thus, Iranians that had camera cell phones and had Twitter accounts were free to send this information and share it with the world. That’s Social Media.
Progressive companies are quickly realizing the importance of projecting a sophisticated online persona and outsourcing this work into professional hands is without doubt the correct path to take.
